The exercise is to test and evaluate station personnel in responding to increased security levels and incidents and test communication across the unit.

The Defence Helicopter Flying School, the Central Flying School (Helicopter) Squadron and the Central Air Traffic Control School are all located at the RAF base.

In the course of a year around 1000 students of all disciplines are trained at RAF Shawbury.

The RAF base said members of the public may notice increased security measures around the main entrance but would not be inconvenienced by the exercise.
