In Shrewsbury the Hive Music and Media Centre will be hosting a street party in Belmont which will feature a variety of activities for all ages, including acoustic performances by local Shropshire musicians Babytwin, AMFX, Jamie Keeling and Luke Day, plus interactive workshops in crown making, stop-frame animation, textile customisation and flag-making. Visitors will have the opportunity to get involved in traditional Maypole dancing and there will also be face painting, balloon modelling and live street theatre.

BBC Midlands today will also broadcast live from Belmont in Shrewsbury before relocating to St. Chads Church for a live broadcast during the early evening news. The Reverend Chris Walker will be interviewed and will be speaking about the “Music for Royal Occasions” event taking place this evening, and also about the fact that he sang at HM The Queen’s Coronation in 1953. The Bishop of Shrewsbury, Mark Ryland will also be interviewed.

A number of bars and restaurants will also be celebrating the Royal Wedding with a party atmosphere showing the ceremony on large screens. In Newport The Aston’s celebrations have been in full swing for a week but this morning more than 40 people will enjoy a Royal wedding breakfast. Staff will also be dressed up in Royal garb. A special evening menu will also be available where people can enjoy some of the Royals favourite dishes.

Elsewhere in Shropshire residents from The Wrekin Housing Trust’s 35 sheltered housing schemes will also be cheering on Prince William and Katherine Middleton by holding their very own celebratory parties.

The organisers of a major caravan and motorhome spring show in Shropshire are also ensuring that people attending the event can still see the Royal wedding. Large screen televisions will be broadcasting the wedding at the West Midlands Caravan and Motorhome Show, which is being hosted by Salop Leisure in Shrewsbury.

Good luck wishes to William and Kate have also been issued by RAF Shawbury’s Station Commander, Group Captain Bunny James. In a statement released yesterday on behalf of all at the RAF base he said:

“We are delighted for the Royal couple on their Wedding Day and wish them the best of luck for now and the future.

“As a former trainee on the base, and a serving RAF helicopter pilot, Prince William (Flight Lieutenant Wales) has a special affinity with RAF Shawbury and this is felt by the team here… the majority of whom will, we are sure, be watching and celebrating in their own way with a mixture of pride and satisfaction, as well as loyal support and genuine joy.

“We are sure it will be a magnificent event and spectacle for the whole country, and we hope that it holds special memories and lives long in the hearts of both Prince William and Catherine as they move forward into their life together.”
