Police in Shrewsbury have identified a man who died last night after collapsing in a Shrewsbury street.

Although he has not been named, the man is a 75-year-old from Shrewsbury.

Police are still investigating the circumstances of his death, but have said it is not believed to be suspicious.

It’s thought he may have collapsed with a medical condition or possibly tripped and fallen. He was found at around 5.45pm lying on the pavement in Ashley Street, Monkmoor and taken by ambulance to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detective Sergeant Mark Hill said: “Until a post mortem has been held it is being treated as any unexplained death although at this stage there is nothing to suggest it is suspicious.

“However, we are anxious to hear from anyone who might have seen him walking in the Ashley Street area early last night.

“In particular, we are appealing for a young woman called Beth, who was one of two people who found the man and called on a resident to raise the alarm, to get in touch.

“Anyone who can assist our enquiries should call Shrewsbury police station on 0300-333-3000.”

The man is described as white, of large build and about six feet tall. He was bald on top with hair round the sides of his head.

He was wearing a cream polo shirt with dark trousers and a multi-coloured cardigan and new white trainers.
