Elderly woman dies following caravan fire

The fire broke out in a static caravan at Beaconsfield Farm Caravan Park just after 10pm on Saturday night.

Fire-fighters from Shrewsbury, Wem, Telford and Whitchurch attended the blaze.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival at the scene, the paramedic found a static caravan that had suffered a severe fire.

“Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save the woman occupant and she was confirmed dead at the scene.”

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, it is not being treated as suspicious.

Man taken to hospital following house fire
A man was this morning taken to hospital following a fire at a detached house in Manor Park, Pontesbury.

Fire-fighters rescued the man from the property using breathing apparatus.

The fire broke out just after 7am this morning.
