A man in his 50s remains in police custody as police continue to investigate the murder of a woman in a village near Shrewsbury.

Officers were called to an address in Caradoc View, Hanwood on Tuesday evening, following reports of concern for the occupant. On entering the property, a woman in her 50s was found deceased.

A murder investigation was launched and, following a number of initial enquiries, a man was arrested at an address in Shrewsbury in the early hours of yesterday.

The scene in Hanwood remains cordoned off while forensic examination of the scene takes place.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jamieson, who is leading the investigation, said enquiries were continuing and renewed an appeal for anyone with information to get in touch.

“We have already interviewed a number of witnesses but I am still keen to hear from anyone else who might have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Caradoc View area between about 9am and 3pm on Tuesday,” he said.

“A post mortem examination is due to take place today in an attempt to establish a cause of death.

“The man arrested remains in police custody today. Formal identification of the victim has yet to be carried out.”
