Murder investigation launched in Oswestry

Officers were called to an address in Orchard Street just after 7pm yesterday following reports of a serious incident.

A woman in her 40s was pronounced dead at the scene and a man arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Eccleston, who is leading the investigation, today appealed for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to get in touch.

“I am asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Orchard Street area during yesterday afternoon and into the evening to contact police on 0300 333 3000,” he said.

“The victim, who is in her 40s, has not yet been formally identified. The man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody and is due to be interviewed today.

“A post mortem examination is also due to be carried out by a Home Office pathologist later today.”

The Coroner for Mid and North Shropshire, Mr John Ellery, has been informed.
