The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital has been given a five-star rating as part of the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme organised by Shropshire Council. This followed a recent inspection of the catering services and facilities at the hospital.
This award reflects the hard work of staff in the catering department who are providing services for vulnerable people across the hospital, as well as members of the public and staff at the site.
High standards of cleanliness and organisation impressed the inspector so much so the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital was given the highest possible rating.
Earlier this year the Princess Royal Hospital was also given the highest possible rating by Telford and Wrekin Council’s Scores on the Doors scheme.
Shelley Gooding, the Trust’s Food Safety Advisor, said: “I am really pleased about the ratings. Patients can feel confident in our service because we achieve such high standards. The inspector was impressed with how clean, well organised and tidy the catering facilities were.
“These awards reflect the hard work put in by catering manager Chris Fisher and all the catering team, as well as the ward managers who are responsible for maintaining hygiene standards in ward kitchens.
“Now that we hold the top rating we all need to continue to work together to maintain this high standard and keep our five-star rating at both sites.â€
The National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme provides customers with at-a-glance information about hygiene standards in food businesses.
The ratings follow inspections of catering facilities across the hospitals. Officials looked at how hygienically food was handled, the condition of the structure of the premises and how food safety was managed and documented.
