A cyclist who was travelling from Ireland to Middlesex has ended up being airlifted to hospital after he was in collision with a car in Shropshire.
The collision happened on the A49 at Ludlow at a slip road near Bromfields Foods Centre at just after 5.00pm yesterday.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When the crews arrived they were told that the cyclist, a 60 year old man from Middlesex, had gone over the car after the collision. He was on route from Ireland to Middlesex. The situation was made more complex because of the poor weather.
“The man had suffered a very nasty open fracture to his ankle.”
Ambulance staff and the air ambulance doctor were initially concerned about the affect the break was having on his foot. But they worked together to re-align the foot and leg which helped the situation.
The leg was splinted and the man was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board before he was airlifted to the regional trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
Prior to the arrival of the ambulance crews, a nurse who was passing the scene stopped to offer assistance.
