A 21-year-old man today appeared in court charged with a sex attack on an 80-year-old woman as she tended a grave at Hengoed, near Oswestry on Thursday.

Haydyn Mellor, of no fixed abode was arrested on Sunday afternoon, he’s charged with two allegations of rape, one allegation of sexual touching and one allegation of theft.

During his court appearance he spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth and no indication of plea was made at today’s hearing.

Mellor was remanded in custody and will appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Monday.
