An elderly woman has been the victim of a sex attack in a Shropshire cemetery.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon in the village cemetery at Hengoed, near Oswestry as the woman tended a grave.

Detective Chief Inspector Jon Groves, the senior investigating officer, said the woman had been subjected to a serious sexual assault.

He said a man arrested last night was being held in custody on suspicion of carrying out the assault.

The suspect was being questioned by detectives at Shrewsbury Police Station today.
