The long-running World Cancer Day initiative was introduced to encourage greater awareness about cancer, normalising conversations about health, and highlighting the importance of early diagnosis. All of which are part of the work and remit of the regional charity established to benefit those impacted with cancer across Shropshire and Mid Wales.

Charity bosses are calling on supporters to host a coffee morning to support the charity’s Sunflower Appeal, which will deliver a new cancer treatment centre into Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital by 2029. As well as raising awareness about cancer and encouraging conversations.

Lingen Davies has created a free downloadable fundraising pack to help people set up their coffee morning events. The pack includes editable posters and useful resources with more information about the £5million Sunflower Appeal.

Naomi Atkin, CEO of Lingen Davies, said: “World Cancer Day provides an opportunity to highlight the challenges faced by cancer patients across the globe. Lingen Davies is committed to growing cancer care and services across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, and Mid Wales to ensure patients have access to excellent resources locally.

“We’re calling on local councillors, businesses, clubs and groups to get involved. Not only does hosting a World Cancer Day fundraiser support the Sunflower Appeal but it provides a relaxed environment to discuss cancer, something that people are often afraid to do. Our LiveLife Cancer Awareness Service is a vital, lifesaving part of the work we deliver in the community to promote the importance of early diagnosis and initiate those conversations – World Cancer Day is a great way to get our community together,” she added.
