An online charity raffle with the top prize of watching a day of motorsport is being held with the aim of raising money to help safeguard the future of the iconic buildings in Ironbridge.

The lucky winner will win a trip for a family of four to the Formula 3 race of their choice and a VIP behind the scenes tour at one of the country’s top racing circuits. Anyone over the age of 16 and not directly involved with the running of the raffle can buy tickets and the draw will be made on March 11.
The raffle is being held in conjunction with a Pit Stop event being held at Enginuity on the weekend of March 9th and 10th – an interactive event offering fun hands-on activities based on science, technology, engineering and maths.
Money raised from the raffle will be split equally between the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust’s (IGMT) Fund for the Future campaign and University of Wolverhampton Racing team (UWR), which operates on sponsorships and donated income.
Karen Davies, of IGMT, said: “The raffle will be held over the weekend for those attending the two-day event in Ironbridge but anyone not going along can buy tickets online now.
“It’s a truly wonderful prize and one that is sure to appeal to anyone interested in motor racing. The winner will be able to take a family of up to four people to a race of their choice in the Formula 3 calendar held at tracks like Silverstone, Donington Park or Brands Hatch and experience a day of motorsport like no other.
“It includes a behind the scenes experience with the University of Wolverhampton Racing (UWR) Formula 3 team, the chance to meet a Formula 3 professional driver, the race engineer and the School of Engineering students that keep the UWR car on the circuit.”
Online tickets will be withdrawn from sale by 10am on Monday, March 11 with the draw taking place later the same day. All tickets purchased via the IGMT website and those purchased at the event will be entered into the same draw and randomly selected. The winner will be notified within seven days.
Dates for the winner to take up their prize will need to be agreed in advance with the UWR team. Behind the scenes includes pit lane and garage access at the discretion of the team and the competition. The prize does not include travel expenses, hospitality or refreshments.
The Pit Stop event in Ironbridge includes appearances of a Formula 3 car, a Morgan racing car, Formula Renault and Formula Student cars from UWR, and a championship driver. Admission on the day is £7 for adults, £5 children.
Fund for the Future is a £1m campaign to ensure historic buildings and monuments in the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site are secured for future generations.
A figure of £1m has been secured through a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund but the fundraising team needs to raise another £1m to match this by a 2021 deadline to take full advantage of the grant.
