Step back in time and see Sunnycroft, an Edwardian villa, in Wellington, decorated for a homely family Christmas.

See how the local Slaney and Lander families celebrated Christmas, from presents around the impressive Staircase Hall tree to entertaining in Dining Room, Billiard Room and Drawing Room, all decorated to create the magical and unique Sunnycroft atmosphere.
Sunnycroft is open Fridays to Tuesdays from Friday 9th December to Tuesday 20 December, 10.30am to 4pm with a last admission at 3pm.
It is a rare opportunity to escape the bustle of Christmas preparations, where each day choirs will perform, with the music and song drifting through the house from 12.00 noon and 2.30pm.
From 9th December to 13th December, Shropshire based, Kaleidoscope Theatre will be adding to the programme by performing short cameos transporting us back to the year 1900. You’ll also meet characters from Sunnycroft’s past in period dress who will reveal the stories and secrets of the family.
Megan Cullinan, Assistant Visitor Operations Manager explains “Christmas at Sunnycroft is such an atmospheric time to visit. The decorations are beautiful and create a homely, yet impressive feel. Whilst standing by the fire in the Staircase Hall you can imagine how it was to live at Sunnycroft as an aspiring middle-class family. It is an ideal opportunity to get away from the crowds of the town centres. We find that many families are now creating their own family traditions by visiting to see the decorations and topping of the visit by the and mince pies or Christmas Cake in the Smoking Room which is now a quaint tearoom. Come along and see us this Christmas!”
Sunnycroft is one of Shropshire’s National Trust gems, tucked away from the bustle of Holyhead Road in suburban Wellington. It encapsulates a way of life that was at the heart of British Society at the height of the Empire. At one time there were tens and thousands of similar properties and now almost all have been demolished or converted. Sunnycroft remains largely intact and is full of original features and much of its original contents which will transport you back in time. Come face to face with owners of this bygone era and take this rare opportunity to enjoy Sunnycroft at this special, festive time of year.
Normal admission charges apply (National Trust members and under 5s free).
