Inclusive Training Event

Shropshire Charity, The Movement Centre, is hosting an Inclusive Community Training Event at University Centre Shrewsbury on Tuesday 11th October 2016.

The event is a great opportunity to improve skills, know-how and confidence in delivering sports-based activities to disabled people. It has been developed in partnership between Sainsbury’s and Sport England through a National Lottery investment and is delivered by the English Federation of Disability Sport and Sports Coach UK.

The Movement Centre supports children with cerebral palsy and global developmental delay, through a unique evidence based therapy called Targeted Training. The children who receive therapy at The Movement Centre all face problems with movement control and have difficulty achieving many basic everyday functions. Through a course of Targeted Training some children have been able to lift their head up for the first time to see the world around them, to stand or even to walk.

“We work with children and their families to help them gain movement control. It is great if Targeted Training can help facilitate families in being more active together”, said Victoria Handbury-Madin, from The Movement Centre. “We are very much looking forward to the event, which will not only be informative, but also lots of fun”!

The event is aimed at parents, carers, support workers, healthcare professionals, volunteers, community groups, sports groups and other organisations supporting individuals with disabilities, with workshops tailored for different audiences held on the day. It is a fantastic platform to learn practical tools and explore creative ideas to support disabled people to take part in physical activity and sport.

With the wonderful successes of Team GB at the Olympics just behind us and the Paralympics taking place early next month, there is no better time think about getting active and making every activity as inclusive as possible!

The event costs just £20 per person, which includes a 3 hour workshop and a buffet lunch. To find out more and to book a place, visit The Movement Centre website event page or contact Polly Roberts on 01691 404248 or pollyroberts@the-movement-centre.co.uk.
