Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from Whitchurch have buried a time capsule at a new housing development in the town.
David Wilson Homes invited the girls to its new development The Mounts, off Haroldgate to leave their memories in the ground for years to come. The group filled the capsule with a variety of items they collected to represent the local area as well as their Rainbows, Brownies and Guides units.
Each girl wrote something about herself, Whitchurch and her involvement in Girlguiding to put into the time capsule. Other items included a Brownie uniform, a map of Whitchurch, an old mobile phone, Girlguiding badges and a copy of the Whitchurch Herald.
Rebecca Harding, District Commissioner for Girlguiding Whitchurch, said: “We would like to thank David Wilson Homes for inviting us to be part of their event. The Rainbows, Brownies and Guides had a brilliant time thinking about what they could put in the time capsule. It was special to be involved in the development in this way and it’s exciting to know the time capsule is there ready to be uncovered by future generations.”
Steve Barton, Senior Sales Manager at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Whitchurch Rainbows, Brownies and Guides to The Mounts. They have created a brilliant snapshot of life at the time the development is being built, filling the capsule with interesting items about Girlguiding and Whitchurch which I’m sure people will be thrilled to uncover in years to come.”
The units involved in the time capsule event were the1st Whitchurch Rainbows, 2nd Whitchurch Rainbows, 5th Whitchurch Brownies, 6th Whitchurch Brownies and 1st Whitchurch Guides.
