Dana to mark 60th Birthday with boxing battle for Cancer Research UK

A Bridgnorth man is set to celebrate his 60th birthday in style by taking part in a boxing match next month to raise funds for Cancer Research UK – which is the culmination of years of fundraising for worthwhile causes.

Dana Power of Cantreyn Drive, and Casthouse Worker at leading manufacturer, Bridgnorth Aluminium, will be participating in his first ever boxing match at the Park Inn, Telford, on Sunday 4 October to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Dana explained: “I’m passionate about doing all I can for the greater good and love taking part in charity initiatives to raise money. Over the course of five years I’ve been doing it, I’ve raised almost £30,000 for seven worthwhile causes.

“Bridgnorth Aluminium has been a fantastic support and has match-funded every single event I’ve done, with the most recent seeing them donate £500 for an Olympic stadium run I undertook for Great Ormond Street Hospital, bringing the total to £1,000. As I’m turning 60 in October, the boxing match is another ambition that I can cross off my list. I don’t have a specific target in mind, but if I can raise as much as I can it’ll be the icing on the cake!”

The match is being organised by Ultra White Collar Boxing (UWBC), and will see Dana undertaking a gruelling eight week training and fitness programme to help him build up strength against his opponent, who will be announced during the weigh-in on 29 September.
