The exhibition of watercolours and mixed media will run for just over a month from Saturday June 21 to July 19, open Monday to Saturday 11.30am to 4pm.
Joan Baker lives and works in Shropshire and many people know views of Bishop’s Castle through her work.
The newly-renovated Heritage Lottery funded, Grade II* listed building provides a spectacular light and airy space to show off Joan’s art.
Thomasina Carlyle, of the Town Hall team, said: “We are delighted to host Joan Baker’s exhibition as our celebratory first opening exhibition.
“What a combination – Joan Baker’s fabulous work exhibited in a spectacular building. Art lovers have to come and see it and enjoy it in this wonderful space.”
Joan, who suffered a stroke last year, has made a remarkable recovery and has continued to make sketches throughout her recovery tracking her journey through a diary of emergent drawings in experimental sketch books.
Joan’s commitment to meditation and love of her surrounding Shropshire landscape are both inextricably linked to her work which can be found in private collections around the world.
She said: “I paint my way through life using whatever medium is appropriate, from watercolour through mixed media, with meditation being an integral part of the journey.”
Locally her work has been exhibited at Silk Top Hat Gallery in Ludlow, as well as galleries in Wolverhampton, Wrekin Arts Festival, Shrewsbury, Much Wenlock, Bridgnorth and Telford.
Her work has been accepted at the Royal Academy, RBA, Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and Royal Watercolour Society Open and at the Open Exhibition of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour.
Her work is in various private collections in this country and all over the world.
