Children attending ABC Day Nursery sites in Hollinswood and Hoo Farm planted their daffodils back in November and then watched them grow before handing them to parents to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Nursery owner Penny Hustwick said: “Some of the daffodils were even planted by babies as young as six months old with the help of our nursery staff.
“They all had a fabulous time filling pots with soil and daffodil bulbs and we planted in total around 100 daffodils across the two nursery sites.
“For several weeks the children watered the plants, looked after them and watched them grow until they were ready to bloom.
“They then gave the flowers on mother’s day in exchange for a small donation to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
“We have now finished collecting and counting all the money and we can reveal that we managed to raise more than £100 for the charity.
“This is fantastic. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of parents and grandparents and would like to thank them all very much.
“It is the fifth year that we have grown the daffodils.
“We hope our donation to the charity will go some way to helping improve the lives of those with cancer.
“Marie Curie nurses do a wonderful job and we are pleased to be able to support their work.”
With the daffodil project complete nursery youngsters are now turning their attention to Easter.
This week at the Hollinswood site which is located at Hollinswood primary and Nursery School the children have been cooking up some Easter crispy cake treats and making Easter bonnets.
They were given a helping hand on Thursday when parents were invited to stay and play at the nursery with their children.
“Spring is definitely in the air at Hollinswood,” added Mrs Hustwick.
“First daffodils and now Easter bonnets and cakes. The children have had a great time getting stuck in with all the activities and so have the parents.
“The stay and play sessions are a great way for parents to see what their children get up to at nursery and they really help to build stronger parent relations with the nursery. The children love it too when they get to show mum and dad their friends and all their favourite nursery activities.”
