The workshops are run by professional artists and are aimed at giving carers much deserved time for themselves, doing something that is relaxing, enjoyable and creative.
One of the primary aims is also to be giving carers much deserved ‘time out’ from their caring duties.
The next workshops are on:
– Wednesday 8 May 10.30am–12.30pm, which will be a crafts session.
– Friday 10 May 10.30am–12.30pm, which will be a drawing and painting session.
They wil both be held in the new Creative room @The Place, Oakengates and will take place every Wednesday and Friday for eight weeks.
All workshops are free, but open to Carers over the age of 18 only.
You need no previous experience just enthusiasm and a willingness to give it a go and meet new friends.
All materials are provided. To book a place or simply find out a little more about the project, contact Naomi Middleton, Creative & Cultural Development Officer on 01952 382365, or email naomi.middleton@telford.gov.uk
Glyn Williams, a local carer from Oakengates who attended the last Carers Me Time workshops, said: “The benefits of attending the arts workshop were felt by myself and my wife.
“We had freedom from one another for a couple of hours and it sparked new conversation. As soon as I walked through the door I was able to forget about things for those few hours.”
Councillor Arnold England, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Leisure and Well-being, said: “The artwork produced at the last set of Carers Me Time workshops was fantastic. Their work is now being exhibited, which is very exciting for everyone.
“This is a great project, brought to you by Telford & Wrekin Council Arts team, working in partnership with joint commissioning for carers from Telford and Wrekin NHS.
“I urge all local carers to get in touch to find out more, or if you know a carer please tell them about this project at The Place.”
Oakengates Theatre @ The Place held a private view of the Carers Me Time exhibition which was a celebration of talent, new friendships and personal development. It was attended by carers, councillors and council officers. The exhibition continues until May 17.
