Trustees of the Much Wenlock Forester Charitable Trust are concerned that not enough people are aware that the Trust exists and whether they realise they might qualify for a grant.
The Trust’s pledge is to support projects which help elderly people who are suffering from financial hardship or poor health, though individual applications are also considered.
The Trust was set up in 2011 after a £250,000 donation to the town was made by the previous owners of the Lady Forester Nursing Home.
Thanks to the contribution to the community from the ExtraCare Charitable Trust, we have funds set aside to help the elderly of Much Wenlock and our message is that we are here to help, said Trust chairman Mark Laws.
“The beneficiaries are not just older adults in Much Wenlock applications from nearby areas in Shropshire will also be considered.
“The aim of the Trust is basically to make life a little bit easier for the elderly in the area by providing grants.
“We are particularly keen to give support to groups which offer help to elderly individuals in the area who may be suffering from financial or medical hardship.
“This is a very young charitable trust which was only set up last year and I’m sure this partly explains why we are getting so few requests for grants.
“Of course we don’t have a bottomless pit of funds at our disposal, but we are certainly in a position to help and we are extremely keen to help.”
Mr Laws explained that the Trustees meet four times a year to consider applications from potential beneficiaries.
