‘Harper Goes Gladiator’ was organised as part of the second year Events Management module for students studying leisure and tourism courses at the University College in Shropshire.

Their task was to create an event in aid of charity which will be graded on preparation, marketing, health and safety and team work.

The day, inspired by hit TV series, ‘Gladiators’, featured a 50ft inflatable assault course and Gladiator-style duels, with celebrations continuing into the evening in the Student Union.

Emily Hayman, 20, was part of the organising team, she said: “The planning for the event went really well, with effective marketing and good team work between us. The students seem to enjoy the inflatables, and we’ve also had a raffle.”

19-year-old Lindsey Rollings also helped to organise the event, she said: “We’ve learnt a lot from Harper Goes Gladiator, and now appreciate how difficult it would be to organise an event in real-life.”

The event was in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity that supports young person diagnosed with cancer. Their aim is to build enough units so that by 2012, every teenager in the UK will have access to the specialist support they provide.
