Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society has won The Barnes Cup for the NODA (National Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society) West Midlands Region Deluxe Programme Award.
The society’s programme for the show “Sister Act” will now be entered into the national competition where it will be judged against the 12 other winners from across the country. The overall winner will be announced at NODA’s annual general meeting which this year is being held in Birmingham in September.
Kay Ikin, representing NODA West Midlands, presented the award to Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society members Fiona Hankin and Joy Hutchings who were responsible for the design and compilation of the award-winning programme.
Presenting the cup Kay said: “Congratulations to Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society on doing so well with their posters and programmes for the shows. You have been nominated on many occasions so you must be doing something right.”
Fiona said: “Joy and I are a good team who have worked together on the last four programmes for the Society’s shows. We’re delighted to have won this award and have our efforts recognised by NODA especially against such stiff competition from other societies throughout the region.”
Joy added: “The award for this programme is particularly timely as this was our final programme to be produced by Fiona and myself on behalf of the society.”
