A Shrewsbury music venue is looking forward to welcoming the voice behind a classic 1970s number one hit this autumn.

Henry Tudor House, situated off Wyle Cop, has announced that Dean Friedman, whose single Lucky Stars shot to the top of the charts, will be appearing there on October 25.

“We are thrilled that Dean Friedman has agreed to come here as part of his new tour for an evening of infectious pop songs,” said Graham Jenkins, proprietor of Henry Tudor House, in Barrack’s Passage.

“His consummate songwriting and performing has earned him a loyal international following, devoted to the sophisticated, funny and profound work of a master songsmith.

“He will be performing his first Top 20 hit, Ariel, a quirky tune about a free spirited girl, and also the single that Dean is probably best known for – the now classic hit Lucky Stars.

“This magical duet, performed with singer Denise Marsa, zoomed to the top of the UK charts, going instantly gold in 1978,” said Graham.

Lucky Stars paved the way for a slew of Friedman hits, including Lydia, Rocking Chair, McDonald’s Girl and Woman of Mine.

“Tickets are selling really well for this event and for the other gigs we have lined up for this year and we expect all the performances to sell out.

“We have worked hard to create a really great music venue here, with professional staging, lighting and great acoustics and all the artists and our audiences seem to appreciate it,” Graham added.

The Dean Friedman performance will start at 8.30pm and tickets are priced at £25 and are available from Henry Tudor House or from www.henrytudorhouse.com/live
