Pupils have been warming up their vocal chords and practising hard ahead of the School’s annual House Singing Competition, which takes place in the Alington Hall on Friday October 17, the eve of Half Term.

The sell-out evening will see every pupil in the school taking part. Many of the songs that will be performed have been arranged by pupils themselves especially for the competition.

The Shrewsbury School Parents’ Association (SSPA) has arranged a marquee outside the hall and will be organising a drinks reception for audience members for the duration of the evening.

This year the drinks reception has been sponsored by Shropshire property experts Nock Deighton which specialises in property sales, management, survey and valuations and has offices in Telford, Bridgnorth, Ludlow and Ironbridge and offers surveys and valuations in Shrewsbury.

Company director and former Shrewsbury School pupil himself, Michael Nettleton, said he was more than happy to sponsor such an event.

Mr Nettleton said: “We are delighted to have been invited to sponsor the drinks reception for one of the most popular events in the school year.

“As a former Shrewsbury School pupil myself, I have very fond memories of the House Singing Competition and didn’t hesitate when we had the chance to support it this year.”

Vice-Chairman of the Parents’ Association, David Schofield, said that the SSPA’s core purpose was to organise a range of social events throughout the year, allowing parents and staff to mix and socialise in a fun and informal environment, which in turn strengthens the relationship between parents and the school.

“As in previous years, this year’s House Singing Competition has sold out and will once again be a major event on the School’s social calendar,” he said.

“Many of the parents at the after party will be new parents who will get the opportunity to meet parents of existing students.

“We give each other much support throughout the year and often the parents make as many friends through the SSPA as the children do through their school year, which is great and strengthens our ‘Shrewsbury School family’.

“As Michael used to be a pupil at Shrewsbury School himself, he was very keen to get involved and we are delighted Nock Deighton are supporting the event.”
