Already boasting a range of entertainment for all the family, the last few stalls are waiting to be snapped up by local traders in an event which last year attracted over 7,500 visitors.

The Festival is a great family day out, offering a range of entertainment including raft and duck races, various demonstrations on the river, canoeing, local independent craft stalls, children’s pirate-themed fancy dress and other competitions, as well as live entertainment.

The new mayor elect of Shrewsbury for 2014/15, Cllr Beverley Baker, is also due to attend the event, which is promoted by the Shrewsbury & Shropshire Waterways & Leisure Group and supported by the Inland Waterways Association, as well as a number of local businesses.

The theme for this year’s Festival is ‘Return of the Pirates’, a fitting tribute to local businessman the late Graham Galliers, who always passionate about improving access to the river for everyone, thereby benefiting the local tourist economy. One of the initial driving forces behind the Shrewsbury River Festival, Graham felt that the fun family event was a fantastic way of introducing people of all ages to the many facets of the river.

“We’ve got some great entertainment lined up for the day, all we need is last year’s beautiful weather,” said Jane Price, Graham Galliers’ partner for ten years and secretary of the 2014 Shrewsbury River Festival organising committee. “If a local trader is interested in taking up one of the last few remaining stalls, they need to e-mail me as soon as possible on janep2301@hotmail.com.”
