Kathryn Tickell to leave music fans spellbound

Kate Hogwood, Director of Shropshire Music Trust said: “Kathryn Tickell is one of this country’s folk music icons who specialises in traditional Northumbrian music, and has single-handedly popularized the songs and small-pipes of her home county. She also includes in her repertoire tunes from Ireland, Scotland and other roots with her wealth of inventiveness delighting audiences wherever she appears. Her band comprises her brother Peter Tickell (on fiddle and guitar); Amy Thatcher (accordion and clog dance); vocalist Joss Clapp (guitar and acoustic bass guitar) and Kathryn will be adding her own earthy voice. She will leave the audience spellbound!

This distinctive quartet provides a perfect setting for Kathryn’s music, matching virtuosity with sheer musicality and creativity. The choice of instruments is inspired; whether it’s the interweaving melodies and driving sound of twin fiddles, the distinctive pairing of pipes and melodeon, or the excitement of the full band, with guitar and acoustic bass guitar adding depth and rhythmic complexity. The traditional tunes of Northumberland and the Borders are well represented, with emotive airs and captivating tunes linked by Kathryn’s inimitable introductions.
