Award Winning Folk Star Makes Welcome Return to Shrewsbury

Jez Lowe, who was part of the acclaimed Darwin Song Project hosted in Shropshire in 2009, will perform at The Hive in Belmont on January 9.

Tickets, priced £10, are still available for the intimate 100-seater performance, which has been organised by Shrewsbury Folk Festival as one of its series of monthly concerts.

Jez is widely regarded as one of the leaders in the field of acoustic music with more than a dozen albums and countless live performances around the world over the last 20 years.

He took part in the Sony Award winning BBC Radio Ballads in 2006 for which he composed 23 new songs and was also nominated as Folk Singer of the Year in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2008.

In 2009, he moved into a farmhouse at Acton Scott with seven other folk artist for a week to produce new music based on the life of Shrewsbury’s famous son Charles Darwin. The resulting songs which were unveiled at a live show at the Theatre Severn have received critical acclaim throughout the folk world.

Folk Festival Director Neil Pearson said: “Jez is an old favourite of the Shrewsbury Folk Festival and it will be a great treat for his fans to be able to see him in such an intimate setting.

“Jez played an important role in the Darwin Song Project and we’re delighted to be welcoming him back to Shrewsbury.”

Future concerts include Chris Wood, Jon Boden and the Remnant Kings, Martyn Joseph, Ewan Robertson & Rua MacMillan, and The Rachael McShane Band. Tickets will be will be on sale for all of those concerts at the Jez Lowe gig.
