Hip Hop in the hills

The SY6-ers with Braincell Harmonics

Jake is the man behind Braincell Harmonics, he has been actively producing music for about 8 years now.

But what was his thinking Jake explains: “With Braincell Harmonics I wanted to make music that I would listen to and also incorporate all the things I like about music from dusty loops to synth pop. Samples, beats, and rhymes are the order of the day.”

From the Start

He started his rapping days when he was 16 when himself and a friend were bored at work one day and decided to make a beat in their lunch break.

The following Sunday they tried to make their first song, at this point he had never rapped before and his friend robin had not made a hip-hop beat before although he did play the piano. So with the very basic of set-ups including a 4 track tape recorder, a £10 karaoke microphone and a keyboard, they started work and some of it turned out to be quite good.

Jake from Braincell Harmonics

Jake eventually moved to Liverpool to study sound tech for a year and that is where he met many like minded people and did gigs with other bands and acts,

Since then he’s been working on solo projects and tuned his hand to production.

But he’s not happy with the music worlds image of Hip Hop at the moment, what I am trying to achieve is to bring something different to the hip-hop world, because lately hip-hop has gone down the pan. I have loved hip-hop for years and years but I just feel that today it is a dying genre, because when anything becomes too popular then it spirals out of control and turns into something that it was never meant to be.
