Edward Goddard, Vice Chairman of the County of Salop Steam Rally Society has announced details of a record number of steam engines making their debut at the Onslow Park venue for the first time. New for 2010, the Rally will also have a live Demonstration Area for visitors to see steam engines in action, and also two sets of steam engines ploughing and cultivating the Working Field Area.

Edward Goddard said: “This year’s Rally will see a new Demonstration Area, where some stunning steam engines will be driven around to show off their paces to entertain visitors. Although the steam engines will still be displayed in their usual line-up, this year we are really bringing the Rally alive by showing people the engines in action. With four highly-attractive Burrell Scenic Showman’s 10horse-power engines providing the motive-power for the fairground rides, it will be a great spectacle with their colourful lights and of course the sounds of magnificent engines! We have the biggest turnout for many years at the 2010 rally, and have a total of 55 impressive steam engines (ten more than last year) and with 20 of those making a fresh appearance. So with an expanded ploughing area, more to see, and lots more steam engines, we are looking forward to hosting what is I believe a fantastic day-out for the family, where we ensure that refreshments are at good value-for-money prices, and with admission prices frozen for many years at an attractive price.. after all just £1 for children!

Engines making their debut include:

A 1918 Mann Patent Steam Tractor called Myfanwy and owned by John Phillips of Anglesey. This was restored over the last 6 years by John and his grandson James Allison of Wem.

Two engines are returning for the first time for some years. They came to the first-ever Rally in 1961-

A Fowler road Locomotive 15787 with has gained Sentinel tractor front wheels over the years; and a Marshall agricultural traction engine owned by John Jones of Shrewsbury.

An American 1906 steam engine manufactured by Advance Tresure will be direct steam ploughing, just like when it started its life in Illinois before being stored for 30 years, and then imported and restored by Mr Spooner of Hereford.

They will also make a guest appearance in the Main Arena in front of thousands of visitors. Steam rollers and steam cars are also well represented and over 1,000 exhibits will be appearing within the popular Rally area, covering 45 acres of parkland. They will include a comprehensive variety of preserved commercial vehicles, lorries, buses and fire engines.
