Lady Fortune

Hailing from the suburban sprawl of A-roads and roundabouts that is Telford, West Midlands, the three members of Lady Fortune formed in 2005, brought together by a love of good British indie-rock. The band (Nick Robinson, guitar / vocals; Paul Pugh, bass; Lyndon Henry Thompson, drums / vocals) immediately set about crafting indelibly catchy songs and within a year were picked up by 1965 Records who offered to put out their debut single ‘Mr Brown’.

Due to other commitments however, the label decided to put back the release date numerous times at which point Wanderlust Records grabbed their opportunity and released the single in September 2007. An accomplished example of infectious indie-pop, ‘Mr Brown’ set Lady Fortune out as a band to watch, earning a myriad of rave reviews and regular plays by Steve Lamacq on Radio One.

The band headed out on a full UK tour in support of the single and upon their return, encouraged by the sheer momentum of support, headed into the studio with renowned producer Brian O’Shaughnessy (Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine…) to record a follow-up single. ‘2 O’clock, Nearly 1 O’clock, Hurry Up’ was released on respected London indie label ‘This Is Fake DIY Records’ in December 2007 and received more great reviews together with further plays on Radio One and 6Music, even picking up the ears of Topshop who selected the track for their nationwide in-store playlist in January 2008.

Word quickly spread further afield and before long Magnetic Records had made an offer to release their debut album in Japan. Recorded by Brian O’Shaughnessy ‘Manners Darling’ was released last Summer and immediately received glowing reviews, even making HMV Japan’s Album of the Week with prominent displays in stores across the country.

The band followed this up with shows throughout the UK, sharing the stage with the likes of The Pigeon Detectives, The Automatic, The Paddingtons, Bromhead’s Jacket, The Young Knives, The Rumble Strips and Mika Miko. It’s this hard touring ethic and a fervent songwriting approach that has distinguished Lady Fortune as a band with focus and direction, the future is looking very bright for this young three-piece.
