Ludlow Independent Living resident Janet Tipton yesterday joined SSHA colleagues travelling to London to make their final pitch in their bid to win the Best Older People’s Landlord award at the UKHA 2019.

South Shropshire Housing Association (SSHA), part of Connexus, has been shortlisted for the Best Older People’s Landlord award at the UK Housing Awards (UKHA) 2019.
The shortlisting recognises SSHA’s innovative Independent Living schemes across Shropshire and Herefordshire, which help residents enjoy their home environment for as long as possible while providing reassurance about safety and security.
Pitching for victory!
When UKHA 2019 judges asked SSHA colleagues to travel to London and pitch for the prize, Ludlow resident Janet Tipton knew she had to get involved.
Janet has lived at the Independent Living scheme at Whitefriars, Ludlow for 9 years and feels passionate about the impact it has had on her life.
She joined Julie Fowler, Independent Living Co-ordinator at Whitefriars and Beech Gardens, and Ann Sutcliffe, Director of the Independence Trust, in making the case for SSHA.
Janet Tipton stated: “Independent Living schemes deserve recognition at the UK Housing Awards. Living at Whitefriars has given me a new lease of life. My well-designed home is one thing, but the range of activities and sense of community is what really makes these schemes a fantastic place to live.”
Julie Fowler, Independent Living Co-ordinator at Whitefriars, knows first-hand how hard SSHA and its colleagues work to support its older residents: “I’m very proud of the work we do across our Independent Living schemes. With the range of activities, events and trips out our residents enjoy, it’s not hard to see why we have been nominated for the Best Older People’s Landlord award.”
Ann Sutcliffe agreed: “In a rural county with an ageing and dispersed population, our Independent Living schemes offer support and solutions to the people who need it most. We couldn’t be more excited to be on the road to London, campaigning for SSHA and having our colleagues’ hard work rightfully recognised.”
