A Shropshire couple have ‘turned a dream into a reality’ by taking over their local pub.

Brent and Libby Millman are the new landlords at The Pheasant in Church Street Broseley, a pub where they were previously customers.

The pair, who have four children, are both local to Broseley. Brent was born in the town and Libby lived there for 23 years.

“We are both really excited to be starting a new business together as we have talked about doing so for a number of years,” said Brent.

“The Pheasant is in a really good location and we have been customers here so it is great to be able to take the over the reins from the owner Laura Cannon.

“We are really grateful to her for giving us this opportunity to turn a dream into a reality,” he added.

The couple are continuing a family tradition in the pub and retail trade. Libby’s grandparents Des and Marie Elcock were landlords at The Swan at Nordley, between Bridgnorth and Broseley, for several years and Brent’s parents, Neville and Margaret Millman, ran a shop at Coalport opposite The Shakespeare pub which was owned by his aunt.

The Pheasant, which was previously closed, will now be open seven days a week and a new chef, who has experience with leading local pubs, has been recruited.

Libby added: “We have found a fantastic chef and will be serving traditional home-made pub meals using locally sourced food where possible.

“Shropshire ales are on tap, as well as other beers and wines, and we want this to be a real family pub as, with having four children, we know how important it is to be able to eat and socialise together.

“A new gated beer garden has been created at the rear of the pub so that little ones are safe to play whilst their parents relax.

“In addition, two local shoots have already booked to have their regular meals here during the season and we look forward to welcoming customers from Broseley and beyond to our new venture.”

The pub was officially launched by the Mayor of Broseley, Councillor Simon Harris, who commented: “This is very good news for the town. The Pheasant was a lively pub which did not deserve to be closed. Brent and Libby have worked very hard to get it open again and I wish them lots of luck.”
