A Shropshire man has marked his 80th birthday in true style – by turning up to work for five and a half days a week – as usual!

Nick Heyhoe, from Copthorne, in Shrewsbury, works for specialist glazing company Heritage Glass at Monkmoor, where his managing director David Randall values him as a key member of the firm’s staff.

David, himself aged 76, said: “Nick has a vast experience in replacement doors and windows, together with conservatories and roofline services and he is a classic example of utilising senior people’s knowledge and experience, no matter how old they are, proving that age is not a barrier in the retail arena.

“He may not use a mobile phone or computer, but Nick is a vital part of our expanding team and has helped us to receive an Age Positive award from Downing Street twice in the past decade.

“In the 15 years he has been working for us, we estimate that Nick has secured a huge amount of business for us and looked after hundreds of satisfied customers through Shropshire,” David commented.

Nick added: “I started working at my first glazing firm in 1962 and although I officially ‘retired’ at the age of 65 I was lucky enough to move to Heritage Glass on a part-time basis as I knew I would otherwise be rather bored. This job gradually turned into full time work and I am enjoying every minute of it.

“I am also lucky to be in good health, keeping myself fit and gaining benefit from working with a younger and friendly bunch of people who are mostly one third of my age, which also makes for a good mix in the workforce.”
