Salop Design & Engineering launches new Apprenticeship Academy

Salop Design

Salop Design & Engineering Ltd is today launching a bespoke, Engineering & Manufacturing Training Academy at their site in Shrewsbury.

The company has been in existence over 50 years and on their current site for the last 21 of those and are at the forefront of Manufacturing in the UK.

They have experienced the highs and the lows of Automotive manufacturing in the UK, and have succeeded where others have failed to stand the test of time.

With the current revival of Engineering & Manufacturing within the UK, Salop Design recognise the need to train the next generation, through vocational apprenticeships, to gain real value from the training schemes and to plug the skills gap facing the sector.

Salop Design in conjunction with their current training provider, In-Comm Training & Business Service, are investing substantial time, finance and resources to create the bespoke, Engineering & Manufacturing Training Academy.

The ‘In-Comm Training Academy Shropshire’, will offer real value engineering training programmes covering a wide range of skills reflecting on local industry needs – it will not only offer young people the opportunity and a route in to the rapid growth sector but also support local Engineering and Manufacturing companies to up-skill their existing workforce.

Christopher Greenough, Director, said:

“Our aim is to support local industry in their development and growth programmes, this will bolster the local economy and help stem the national problem we currently face….. a shortage of Apprenticeship time served Engineer’s”.

Gareth Jones , In-Comm’s Director, said “The Academy is aiming to be ready to open its doors to the first cohort in September of this year. In-Comm’s programmes are designed to create lifelong Engineer’s with the initial foundation programme covering cover core skills such as Milling and Turning”.

The Academy will be tailored to local industry and have staggered start dates for its programmes; initially this will be two cohorts per year ramping up to a minimum of four starts per year by 2018.

In the future it is anticipated that the Centre will also offer CNC Machining, Welding Programmes, Quality Assurance, CAD, Forklift Truck and Business Support apprenticeships.
