Jason King from Jolly Good Van Hire in Shrewsbury and Mark Hughes from the company head office in Wrexham vowed to give £1 to Hope House Children’s Hospices every time someone tweeted after spotting their red vans boasting Santa on the side.
Over the festive period the “tweets” and “likes” on their Facebook site came rolling in as people spotted the red “Jolly Good Santa sleighs” on the roads.
Mr King, who has run the Shrewsbury branch for three years, said they had raised a total of £1,712 and hoped to make that up to £2,000 with any further donations.
“We had a fantastic response to the red vans which were liveried up in time for Christmas with Father Christmas on the side.
“People said it put a smile on their face when they saw them out on the roads and made them even happier knowing they were helping such a good cause as Hope House just by clicking the mouse,” he said.
“It was great to raise £1,712 but we would really like to hit the £2,000 mark. We are now asking anyone who perhaps has not yet given to charity this year or has raised money through an event but has not yet earmarked a charity to help us reach our target.
“Hope House in Oswestry and Ty-Gobaith in North Wales are fantastic places which really are a lifeline for so many families at such a difficult time.
“The staff provide amazing specialist nursing care and support to life-limited children and young people from across such a huge area and every penny makes that job just a little bit easier.”
Mr King urged anyone who could help donate to e-mail him at Jason@jollygroup.co.uk and he would arrange for the money to be collected.
