Karen is Programmes Manager of the Woodford Foundation which helps deaf children in income-poor countries get education and training. The pennant was presented by Shrewsbury Town FC as a symbol of their commitment to help support the work of the Woodford Foundation.
Karen is going to Malawi to meet with Woodford programme partners and Ministry of Education officials.
She said “we work with communities so that they are aware that deaf children can get an education and have just as active a role in society as their able hearing peers. The little things can make a huge difference and as a result, deaf children and young people can look forward to a life fully integrated into society and with access to services and employment that otherwise wouldn’t be available to them.â€
Shrewsbury Town Football Club have donated a pennant to be presented to Woodford’s programme partners in Malawi, the club stated that Woodford’s “…good work for clearly underprivileged children is always close to the heart of the Chairman of the club and is reflected in our support for the deaf children in Malawi.â€
Harry Salter, Woodford’s fundraising officer said:
“Being from Shropshire it is great to have Shrewsbury Town Football Club backing Woodford. We are proud to work with them and organisations like them whose interest and dedication to issues and causes outside their day-to-day activities can make such a difference to the most disadvantaged people in society.â€
