The Malinslee Local Centre scheme will include a supermarket, play facilities, and residential development.
This news follows on from significant investment already made in Malinslee including the opening of Old Park Primary School and the Stepping Stones Centre.
Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet last night approved the proposed redevelopment of the Malinslee Local Centre and detailed plans will be submitted in due course.
The proposals have been hastened after the centre’s supermarket was destroyed in a major fire in May last year.
Councillor Eric Carter, cabinet member for housing and regeneration, said: “We have been committed to a programme of regenerating both our Borough Towns and Telford’s New Town Estates and this scheme is the latest that we are able to bring forward.
“Malinslee is similar to some other places in Telford in that its original design was somewhat flawed and it is now looking a bit tired and is badly in need of positive investment.
“This situation has only been exacerbated by the fire. Understandably, no-one wants a burned out building in their local centre and we are keen to help lift people’s aspirations. Investment in new facilities is one of the best ways of doing this.
“The scheme that we have approved will greatly enhance the centre of Malinslee and we have other plans going forward to further regenerate the area, as we have in other places such as Brookside, Sutton Hill, Woodside, Oakengates, Hadley and Dawley.â€
