Lee Smith, 29, from Bridgnorth, is so impressed with the service he and his wife are receiving he is taking part in the 22-mile walk on Bank Holiday Monday, 26 May to raise funds for the centre.
He is hoping to raise nearly £300 for Bridgnorth Midwife Led Unit, which is one of the five Midwife Led Units in the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, providing Maternity care to women across Shropshire.
Lee said: “My wife, Penelope, and I are expecting our first child in July.
“I’ve always wanted to do the Bridgnorth Walk anyway, and the help and support that we have received from the Bridgnorth Maternity Unit gave me something I felt I could raise money for.
“My wife is a bit of a worrier by nature, but the staff in Bridgnorth have put her at ease. They are always there to contact if you need anything and they are all very personable, so you feel happy to ask questions.”
Lee already has about £250 in pledges but is hoping to raise more. He has set up a donations page on the JustGiving website at www.justgiving.com/leejasmith
Beverley Montague, Ward Manager at the Bridgnorth Midwife Led Unit, said: “I am very pleased and proud that Lee has considered the Midwife Led Unit at Bridgnorth to be a worthy recipient of his sponsorship.
“Here at the Midwife Led Unit, we like to provide a friendly, home-from-home atmosphere which will support women, and their partners, in all parts of their journey into motherhood and parenthood. We aim to provide an environment that enables Low Risk Women to have confidence in their abilities to birth their babies here at Bridgnorth. The funds generously donated by Lee will be wisely spent in order to enable the Midwife Led unit to continue to enhance that environment.”
