The incident occurred at around 10.15pm on the High Street on Friday 14 March.
The victim – a 16-year-old male – was making his way home when he passed a group containing around seven people, all of whom were male.
Just seconds later, without warning, the victim felt a blow to the back of his head. The victim turned round and saw two unknown young men who then proceeded to hit him twice more in the face.
Having hit the victim, the two men then made off in the direction of Legges Way.
As a result of this incident the victim suffered a 2 inch cut below his left eye and a number of bruises to his head and face.
A police spokesman said: “This assault appears to be unprovoked and we are therefore we would like to identify the young men responsible for it as soon as we can.
“We believe there were a significant number of witnesses in the area when the assault occurred and we also believe at least one car had to take evasive action as the incident spilled onto the road.
“We are very keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time this incident occurred, especially anyone who may have actually seen the assault take place.
