Alex Griffiths-Brown, 24, who works for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, will fly out to Cambodia next month, where she will spend two weeks running health clinics and teaching sessions in an education centre.
She will spend time in the capital city of Phonm Penh before moving on to Siem Reap in the north-west of the country.
Alex said: “I’m from Shrewsbury and now I’m back working from here, and I just felt that I needed to do something different. I heard about All Ears Cambodia and it appealed to me straight away.
“I’m really excited about going and seeing what it is like. I go on 23 February and start work the next day so I’ll be straight in at the deep end. I’ll be looking to get a feel for what they do and seeing if there is anything I can share with them.
“It should be a fantastic experience, and I’m hoping it will give me the motivation to do something else like this in the future.”
Alex, who is based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but also runs clinics across the county, is grateful for financial support she has had to make the most of the trip.
She is taking a supply of audiological equipment, thanks to a generous donation from GN Otometrics, a company which makes hearing and balance equipment and software.
“I was at a conference and I actually helped someone from the company with blowing up balloons. He told me to get in touch if they could ever do me a favour in return,” she revealed.
“I emailed him telling him about the trip and he immediately offered to help by providing me some equipment to take out there. It’s an incredibly generous donation and I am very grateful.”
And the Shropshire and Mid Wales Head and Neck Charity is contributing towards the costs of her getting there.
“I had been saving hard but it has not been easy so I was very grateful when the charity said it would help,” she added.
