Mr Patterson was able to hear first-hand the Centre’s ambitions of running an environmentally friendly business in tandem, with its aim to be a role model in running an altruism policy of supporting & sponsoring the community / county as it develops.

Owen Paterson marvelled at the collection of sculptures both from the UK & all around the world, saying the centre is both unique & a credit to the town & country.

Owen is greatly involved with the protection of wildlife around the world, with Kenya being a particular concern at present. Here the Minister is seen photographed next to a huge African Elephant sculpture, astonishingly made from recycled oil drums.

Owen also took the time to launch the Ironworks latest innovation of keeping healthy at work, by approving the centre’s “pedal to work” scheme. The centre has invested in its staff health & welfare by encouraging all of its employees to cycle to work, an innovative already endorsed by the government.

Clive Knowles Managing Director for the British Ironwork Centre said “To have Owen’s support & encouragement is inspiring & we’ll continue with greater momentum and efforts in future to work in harmony with the environment in order to preserve and minimise our impact on the wonderful Shropshire countryside.”

Town Councillor, Vince Hunt accompanied Owen during the visit, was quoted saying, “the centre is a real success locally , with over 40 employees and continuing there recruitment drive, adding further placements before this year ends.

“If they continue with their ambition to be Shropshire first Sculpture Park, then certainly they will become a leading employer in the town, as well as pulling visitors from all over the country to Oswestry.”
