A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The man driving the car, who was in his early sixties, is believed to have suffered a medical event whilst driving, and also suffered chest injuries.
“He received emergency treatment at the scene and his condition was stabilised. The man was then extricated from the vehicle with the assistance of the fire service. He was trapped for around an hour.”
The man was then airlifted to University Hospital North Staffordshire for further emergency treatment.
The hospital were on standby for the patients arrival.
