Children will be able to pick up their joining packs and also take part in stories, quizzes and a treasure hunt.

The theme for this years challenge is ‘Creepy House’ and children between the ages of 5 and 11 are being encouraged to take up the challenge and read six books over the summer holidays.

Children completing the challenge will receive a medal and certificate to mark their achievements, whilst receiving a collector’s poster and smelly stickers along the way.

The Summer Reading Challenge aims to get Telford & Wrekin youngsters into libraries to keep up their reading skills and confidence.

As part of the Creepy House theme other free activities will also be taking place throughout the holidays for children to join in with to really fuel their appetite for reading.

Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for Customer Services, Libraries and Transport, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to continue reading over the summer holidays as well as getting them into their local libraries where there are so many books to choose from.

“The extra activities that are also going on will give the children much more than just the experience of visiting the library and checking books out, they will also get to enjoy fun activities with other children and really get into the theme of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.”
