
Back by popular demand, Severn Valley Railway’s Steam and Whistle Activity Club, based at The Engine House visitor centre at Highley, will run throughout August featuring a variety of themed events.
Teddy and Pyjama Week kick-starts the action, on August 6th, 7th and 8th. Children can dress in their pyjamas, bring their favourite teddy, get teddy repaired at the Teddy Hospital, enter the Best Dressed Teddy competition, hear lots of teddy train stories and enjoy a teddy bears’ picnic.
Creative youngsters can get messy during Arts and Crafts Week on August 13th, 14th and 15th, featuring a variety of craft workshops, the chance to make a railway clock, a craft competition and the opportunity to meet some very special SVR friends – the bees.
August 20th, 21st and 22nd is Pirate Time! Budding pirates can dig for hidden treasure, enter the Best Dressed Pirate competition, go on a pirate trail, make a pirate hat and meet the owls during this adventurous week of seafaring fun.
Dig and Discover on August 27th 28th and 29th rounds off the month, featuring a dig for real Roman artefacts, archaeology trail, shield-making workshop, coin rubbing, digging in the allotments and competition.
Activities run throughout the day and admission to The Engine House visitor centre and the Steam & Whistle Activity Club is free when visitors purchase a Freedom of the Line ticket. The new Annual Family Pass is also valid on all activity club dates.
As well as the activity days, there is a wealth of fun on offer at SVR, one of the West Midlands’ most exciting family days out, with the option of creating your own itinerary to appeal to all the family.
Enjoy a free visit to the Kidderminster Railway Museum, let off steam in more than 120 acres of the Severn Valley Country Park, or enjoy at picnic on the beautiful country station at Arley. The Coalyard Miniature Railway also operates at Kidderminster station on most days in August.
The SVR’s Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley boasts an array of exhibitions; including its new Great Train Robbery exhibit, an impressive collection of reserve locomotives and majestic Royal Carriage, gift shop, restaurant and children’s outdoor railway themed play area.
The Railway will be fully open as usual throughout the school holidays, running an intensive steam train service, allowing visitors to hop on and off at six unique stations along the line.
