The Shrewsbury Film Society which is based at the Hive is preparing to screen something for all tastes and interests; including a special series of films to coincide with celebrations at the first ever Shrewsbury Food Festival!
Shrewsbury Film Society is overseen by a group of film enthusiasts across Shropshire and aims to offer films and friendly surroundings all at a great price; which promises to rival any of the mainstream cinemas. A warm welcome awaits visitors in the bar from 7:30pm with films always commencing at 8pm and taking place regularly on either Friday or Saturday evenings.
The new summer season started on May 18 when the society showed Chilean drama ‘No’ which went down to great acclaim with the audience. Last Saturday evening saw About Elly screened – an engaging and thought-provoking Iranian drama.
Future films to be screened include German documentary Pina on June 1 and Nine Queens on June 15, a film from Argentina. Other films include Sister on June 22, Badlands on July 6 and The Green Ray, a French drama on July 20.
A trio of films centred around food will also be screened as part of the town-wide Shrewsbury Food Festival in an exciting partnership with the Film Society who are combining forces for the weekend. On June 28, Jiro Dreams of Sushi will be shown, then on June 29 there will be a double-screening – both Sideways and Babette’s Feast will be shown at 5:30pm and 8pm respectively.
Habib Malik-Mansell from the Hive said “It’s been positive to see the Shrewsbury Film Society develop from fledging group through to fully formed and increasingly popular society. They are continuing to prove that there really is a demand for more unique cinema in Shropshire – and audience numbers are stronger than ever as more people tap in to this great cinematic resource.”
Admission for films is £5 per film. For more information on the full season and to access film notes, trailers and details – visit http://www.hiveonline.org.uk/shrewsburyfilmsociety/
