The event was hosted by John Mehtam, who is the head of employment law at Martin-Kaye Solicitors, and was the latest in a series of sessions run by Telford Business Partnership.
Held at The Foundry, in Euston Way, the masterclass gave TBP members the opportunity to find out how to deal with staff who misbehave online, and how to create a robust social media policy to avoid any misuse in the first place.
Robin Melley, TBP Chairman, said the event outlined the current risks associated with Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube – and advice on how to avoid the pitfalls.
“We had an excellent response on the day and our 20 delegates who took part said the advice they received was invaluable. Our aim is to deliver masterclasses that are topical and relevant to local companies, and with hardly a week going by without a controversial comment on social media hitting the headlines, this seminar was a great example of the expert advice we can deliver.
“It was incredible to hear so many examples of staff being disciplined for comments they had posted on Facebook and Twitter, and it’s vital that employers get to grips with the scale and threat posed by social media.”
TBP launched the masterclass series so that members can step up to share their expertise and the calendar is already full for the coming months.
Numbers are strictly limited at each event to ensure that everyone who attends is able to be directly involved in the interactive session, and that they are able to ask as many questions as possible.
The masterclasses are free for members of Telford Business Partnership and Telford Young Professionals, but visitors may be able to attend for a nominal fee if numbers allow. TBP is a growing network of business and professional service companies, promoting the diversity and quality of their services to local companies and those relocating to the area.
