In Shrewsbury, both the Riverside and main sections of the car park are closed, and people are advised to take the Park and Ride service or use alternative car parks.

Theatre goers attending an evening performance at Jack and the Beanstalk at Theatre Severn are advised to use St Julian’s Friars or Abbey Foregate car parks, or on-street parking in the town centre if available.

In Ironbridge the first stage of the Flood Barrier Action Plan is being implemented.

A Telford & Wrekin Council spokesman said:

“Due to rising water levels in the River Severn and after consulting the Environment Agency, Telford & Wrekin Council has taken the decision to implement the first stage of the Flood Barrier Action Plan.

“As a result, police cones are being put along the length of The Wharfage in the Ironbridge and bungs installed in gulleys. This is purely precautionary at this stage and The Wharfage will remain open. However, there will be no on-street parking along The Wharfage while there remains a threat of flooding.

“Levels in the River Severn are expected to peak on Monday and Telford & Wrekin Council will continue to monitor the situation over the weekend.

“We are also currently assessing the condition of the road from Isombridge to Roddington (Isombridge Lane) Excessive amounts of flood water from the fields may necessitate the need to close the road.”
