Patrolling police officers saw a vehicle – a silver Volkswagen Beetle – acting suspiciously in the Mill Bank area of Wellington at around 2.50am today.

The driver of the car failed to stop for police and a police pursuit took place. The vehicle was eventually forced to stop by police in the Whitchurch Drive area.

It was established that the silver Volkswagen Beetle had been stolen earlier from an address in Dothill.

Two male teenagers, aged 14 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and taken into custody at Malinsgate Police Station, where they are currently being interviewed.

The 17 year-old was also arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, driving without a licence or insurance and on suspicion of driving dangerously.

The Volkswagen Beetle has been recovered by police for forensic examination.

Detective Sergeant Matt Gibbons, who is leading the investigation, said today: “The prevention and investigation of household burglaries is a top priority for West Mercia Police.

“We urge members of the public to support us by reporting any suspicious activity near homes or businesses. If you see anything which raises your suspicions, please call police immediately and we will check it out.

“We urge people to phone the police on 101 if they see or hear suspicious activity and if they believe a burglary is actually taking place, to call us on 999.”
