Poetry Parnassus - John Hegley.

Poetry Parnassus, the brainchild of Simon Armitage and a Southbank Centre project, will bring world class poets to the stage in Ludlow on Thursday 12 July and will be hosted by nationally adored performance poet John Hegley.

Poetry Parnassus has been the biggest poetry festival ever staged in the UK and the largest gathering of international poets in world history. It has taken place at The Southbank Centre, London and will now tour selected venues until 15 July.

Over two hundred poets representing every Olympic nation will join the world’s most exciting rappers, spoken-word artists, dancers and musicians for a week-long programme of events at the Southbank Centre’s Festival of the World and a selection of these will perform live in Ludlow as part of a UK tour. The evening event will give many readers and audiences a unique opportunity to hear international poets read and discuss their work.

The Ludlow line-up will include prize-winning poet and journalist Reza Mohammadi from Afghanistan, former court poet to Kim Jong-il, Jang Jing Seoung from North Korea, Zahir Al-Ghafri from Oman and writer, performer and translator, Agnes Agboton from Benin.

Jenna Blair, Sales and Marketing Manager at the art centre says “What a fantastic event to be holding at LAR, we can’t wait to present some of the finest poets from around the globe as part of an international celebration of poetry … and John Hegley is always a treat!”

Poetry Parnassus on Tour is a Southbank Centre production in association with Speaking Volumes Live Literature Productions and funded by Arts Council England.
