Organisations including Telford & Wrekin Council, Capgemini, the Dawley Regeneration Partnership, Great Dawley Parish Council, Phoenix School and Telford College of Arts and Technology have come together to plan renovation works.

There has been plenty of activity since Telford & Wrekin Council and Dawley Regeneration Partnership started to explore ways of securing the building’s future.

All of the partners involved have been working hard by organising tidy up days as well as rallying support for the Friends of Dawley Town Hall group – made up of local people.

The partners have been informed that their bid to the National Lottery’s Reaching Communities Fund has been unsuccessful although Lottery advisors have urged the group to apply for other available grants.

The Reaching Communities fund attracts many applications and only a small number of projects are successful.

The ‘Friends Group’ and the partners involved will continue to research additional funding streams while the project to renovate the Town Hall can now be accelerated using the £140,0000.

Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services and Co-operative Council, said: “Although our bid has been unsuccessful we have been given valuable feedback from Lottery advisors who have encouraged us to apply for various other streams of funding which they have available.

“Working with funding already secured from partners in the region of £140,000, we can still plan for the future of Dawley Town Hall – which remains bright. In fact, it now means that we can accelerate the programme to revive this iconic building and bring it back into the heart of the community where it belongs.

“In the meantime, I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank everyone who has taken an interest in the project and look forward to continuing to work with them to restore a much loved community facility.

“In the current climate there is a great deal of competition for funding but we will continue to work together co-operatively to secure the future of Dawley Town Hall.”
